Catch Up

Newly crowned champions of The Intervals, the party finds itself entangled in a coup with Amras, the Uptown Girl, and the elves of Elyas against the Piano Man (aka Man of Strings). Rather than let them capture him, Piano Man defiantly stabs himself with the Knife of Transposition, trapping his own soul and denying them their prize (see Fuck You). Diverting the usurpers with the Dress of Love, the party buys a few hours to rest.

They wake floating in in a giant orchestra hall, with 2 strong and 1 weak ethereal bindings from each PC leading off to the distance. The first strong binding leads to the percussion section, with 4 subsections out of 7 total in shambles. The second strong binding leads to the conductor section, which has a large pile of goblin bodies with various written notes on the bodies. The last weak binding leads to the strings section, where a faint apparition of the Piano Man wanders with incoherent ramblings and no memory of recent events.

Interrupted from their dream, the same tricks no longer work with the guards. The party escapes Tensegrity to find the a budding revolution amidst the disintegrating city. Maurice driving a caravan gives them a ride, and trades a secret for a secret to reveal that the PCs are not from this verse. He offers a deal: smash the instruments, destroy this verse, free him from his endless cycle, and the PCs can return to their home verses. Behind them, Tensegrity collapses into a heap, its wards broken, as desertification spreads and Uptown Girl seizes control of the ruins.

Mechanics

  • Transposition: a form of interplanar travel. Time passes differently between planes by a factor of 2x, e.g. 1 second on the material plane is 2 seconds in the Feywild. The Knife of Transposition and Instrument Panel are two known forms of transposition.
  • Dress of Love: makes creatures believe the wearer is “the person they love the most”. Seems to be powered by moonlight and subsequent uses seem less effective.
  • Moon Orb: Reservoir of moonlight. Can act as a lens.
