The party catches up with Sam:
- Viscount Bridgerton was very upset
- Viscount made some local dealings and handed off children to the mine cult (Cult of Darkness)
- Sam came to Lyric searching for the party
- Got mixed in with The Leader because he seemed in charge
Sam and the party travel to a small mine near Ode.
The party find the mine entrance, leaving Sam and the Donkey.
Helia shapeshifts into a rat, and sneaks away with Cory + somebody.
They encounter a door, which Cory picks the lock. Helia finds a stomping cloaked figure in a small room.
The party reunites, and a quick combat later, Harloc uses Turn Undead to cause the guardian to flee.
As they enter through a door in the back, they are greeted with torches that repeat in an endless staircase.
The first two torches are lit with lyrics to Pompeii, after which every subsequent torch is extinguished in ash. Helia figures out that the trick is to “close your eyes”.
The party enters the mine and wander through a maze, safely navigating a pit towards a medium sized room with 2 humanoids. Closer examination reveals them to be ash covered zombies of the orphans, as they rummage through Jackal and Baboon remains.
Hanzo nopes out of the situation and walks back up the staircase.
The rest of the party backtracks, finding a previously skipped door into an officer’s apartment with a cloak of protection.
As the party - Hanzo explore, they find a room with the grotesque remains of priests and workers, all of them tattoo’d similar to the Prince of Darkness from the feywild. The bodies are pinned to the wall.
As they explore the final door, it opens out into a massive chamber. At the far end, a figure clothed in red pa-ra-pa-pum’s on a drum surrounded by smaller figures. Drummer Boy
The figure zips to the party and reveals that:
- his hands are mutilated, with index fingers only as drum sticks
- he blames the party for not being there to save them
One of the small figures sputters and falls to the ground. The figure zips back, and with a wave of his hand, kills the creature. Another wave, and it rises again.
The figure zips back and continues blaming the party. Then with a quick jerk of its head, the Drummer Boy cocks his head, and then phase shifts out.
As the party approach the figures in the far side, they notice the figures in clusters around a small tan bag. Between attacks, Helia tries to communicate with one of the larger figures, only to get a single gasping “Please”.
The party continue their butchery (self justified as an “act of mercy”). They take the tan bag of tricks.
Session ends with a Sam POV quoting Save The Children.
